Carlos Hertel brings over 25 years of extensive experience in international media sales, distribution, and strategic consultancy across Europe and global markets. He began his career at Bavaria Film International (Munich) in 1997, rising to lead TV sales in France, Italy, and Spain, plus acquisitions of third-party mandates for worldwide distribution. From 2003–2008 at Telepool GmbH, he managed international sales for TV fiction, documentaries, animation, and theatrical releases via Cinepool, alongside key acquisitions.

 

In 2008, Carlos established and headed the world distribution department at Tele München Group until 2016, driving international sales of scripted and non-scripted content. As Director of International Sales at Bavaria Media (2017–2022), he oversaw global distribution across all channels for a 20,000+ hour catalog of diverse genres and served on the International Acquisitions Board.

 

Since 2017, as founder of IMC Strategy, Carlos Hertel consults on sales, coproductions, and strategy for clients like Red Bull Media Group, K5 International (international sales for Kevin Costner's Horizon Saga), Looks Film, Palatin Media, The Playmaker Munich, The Ergo Company (South Africa), and Kdms GmbH. He is a founding partner of GetMovedMedia production services agency.

 

Recent highlights include IMC's contribution to financing THE BUTLER - starring Jean Reno, Tom Hollander, and Molly McCann - via presale to Mediaset Spain, and executive producer credit on the Estonia-Italian coproduction of period crime drama DETECTIVE VON FOCK with Zolba Productions and Movie.Mento in partnership with Silkway Films for ERR, LTV, and LRT, set for ZDF Studios international distribution.

 

Carlos has shared his expertise through lectures on international content distribution at institutions including BAF – Bavarian Academy of Television and the German Producers Alliance (PAiq), as well as through past engagements at DFFB Berlin, Macromedia University, and HFF Munich. He has also served as a jury member for the Cinéma Tous Écrans Festival in Geneva. He holds a double Business Administration degree from ESB Reutlingen (IPBS) and Universidad Pontificia Comillas Madrid (ICADE E-4), with a published thesis on European film industry competitiveness (Verlag Berlin-Brandenburg/NOMOS).
